The Moke, that cheeky icon of 1960s style, is back. We've missed it.

I have always had a soft spot for the Moke (or Mini Moke, as you may remember it). In my mind it brings back images of Sixties movies; where glamorous stars would be scooting along beside some sun-drenched Mediterranean beach while, in the background, bright young things happily enjoyed their best of times…

Anyway, that’s enough of that rose-tinted malarkey.

Back to today's reality. If you’re also a Moke fan I have good news. The Moke is back on sale in the UK and, to celebrate, Manufacturer Moke International is producing a limited run of 56 special edition vehicles (to mark the time that’s passed since the marque first hit Britain’s streets in 1964).

Originally designed by Sir Alec Issigonis, who also created the Austin Mini, the Moke was initially destined for a military career… The idea being it could was agile and robust enough to cope with front-line missions.

Fast forward to the present day… The original Moke trademark was acquired in 2015 and has seen solid sales in the Caribbean market. Following UK regulatory approval, vehicles are now available to purchase here and in Ireland. Additional models will be launched across Europe, the USA and beyond in 2021.

Mark Truman, head of Moke’s engineering and production functions, said: “My role is to preserve the integrity and spirit of the original while incorporating the very best of today’s technologies that match the requirements of a new generation.”

The new Moke includes a four-cylinder, fuel injection engine, improved suspension and either automatic or manual transmission.

UK buyers can now order either the limited edition Moke 56 or the standard Moke Classic. Prices start at around £20,000 excluding local taxes and delivery.

More details are on the Moke website.
