A msterdam’s Rijksmuseum has opened a new exhibition focusing on some of the female artists who have made their mark in the creative sphere over the centuries.
Entitled Women on Paper, it considers the work of some of the individuals who feature in the iconic Dutch museum’s collection and their place in the history of art.
The works, which are on show in five rooms in different areas of the extensive museum, include drawings, prints and photographs dating from the 15th to the 20th centuries.
Among those featured are Diana Mantuana and Barbara van den Broeck, who worked as printmakers and engravers in the 15th and 16th centuries; Dorothea Maria Graff and Alida Withoos, who specialised in producing depictions of natural subjects around 100 years later, and a clutch of creatives from the 19th century, including painters Berthe Morisot, Thérèse Schwartze and Lizzy Ansingh.
Women on Paper is at the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, until 5 June 2023.
