The Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art celebrates the milestone of a quarter of a century in London this year.

F ounded by the American sociologist and writer Eric Estorick and his wife Salome, the Islington-based venue primarily focuses on Futurist, figurative and sculptural works created in Italy from 1890 until the 1950s.

Best known for his subtle still lifes, Morandi is today recognised as one of the most significant figures of modern Italian art, known for his ability to capture the intricacies of light and his enthusiasm for exploring the boundaries between abstract and figurative imagery.

The works are on loan from Italy’s Magnani-Rocca Foundation and feature several extremely rare items, including a self-portrait, in addition to several watercolours and a large number of etchings.

Giorgio Morandi: Masterpieces from the Magnani-Rocca Foundation is at the Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art, 39a Canonbury Square, London N1 2AN until 30 April 2023.
